Management program assists Virden businessmen
Industry and Commerce Minister Len Evans announced that about 25 small businessmen in Virden are receiving individual management advice from consultants of the department's community management development program. Selkirk and Portage la Prairie will be the next communities on the itinerary. The program, started in late 1971, offers guidance at lower fees than private firms, with sessions on rent, personnel, marketing, and problem areas, followed by recommendations. Client firms average five employees and about $300,000 in annual sales, with 90 percent implementing at least one major recommendation and 30 percent adopting all key suggestions, leading to improved operations. A coordinating committee of local officials and the Chamber of Commerce facilitates community participation.
