John Gordon of Portage la Prairie and formerly Beaver District died Monday. Born in Rosshire in 1694, he came to Canada with his parents in 1904. Funeral services are Thursday from McKilop's Funeral Home with burial in Beaver Cemetery Portage.
Residents of MacGregor mourn the sudden death of Ida Elizabeth Merrick age 82 after 58 years in town. She was active until a few hours before passing. Funeral held at St Pauls Anglican Church on Wednesday. family all in attendance. A full obituary will follow.
The Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual meeting on Tuesday February 4 at 8 30 in the Legion Room Memorial Hall. All members and interested townspeople are invited to attend to discuss the welfare of our town and district.
Village council held a Monday session with Mayor W H Montgomery presiding. They reviewed summer improvements and bridge repairs for the 1950 budget, approved 234.40 for the Portage Health Unit, appointed H R Ende & Co as 1950 assessor for 180 dollars plus expenses, and adjourned to March 13 with finances settled.
The Ladies Bonspiel starts next Tuesday February 14 at 1 PM and runs through February 25 with four events. Entries from Sicney Carberry Plage Bagot and distant rinks will compete under R H Harvey. Entry deadline noon Monday February 13 to Mrs Margaret McKelvy or Frances Nelson. banquet at United Church Annex Wednesday evening.
Report says MacGregor hosts a pivotal inter town game with the Orange and White bench proving strong. McGregor led scorers with one goal and five assists as key players like Clement Holloway and Little shined, while Elmo Ritchie’s status looms for Saturday’s big test.
Macy Gregor Curling Club wins laurels with both Smith rink at Gladstone and McPhee ink at Carberry excelling. Smith rink tops major event at annusbon spiel with five ties won and prize Remington Blue Streak Electric razors. McPhee rink plays thirteen games, finishing ten wins three losses in Grand Challenge and Citizens finals, earning two dinner sets and carving set.
The Sees of St Paul’s hosts Evensong with soloist Mrs D G Meiac and the MacGh chapter observing the 50th anniversary of the LODE. Worshippers invited to join at the service.
Wedding vows were exchanged February 7 at St Marys Ang An Churen Portage la Prairie with Canon P C Bays uniting Mildred Constance Rowlatt of Austin Manitoba and Will Intech Roberts of MacGregor Manitoba. The bride wore a grey gabardine suit with wine accessories and a matching hat. Attendant Mrs G C Fotheringham wore a wine suit with pink carnations. The couple left for Fort Francis Ontario and will reside in Portage la Prairie on return.
