Utility wheats licensed in Canada for livestock feed
The Canada Department of Agriculture authorized two utility wheat varieties, Pitie 62 and Glenlea, for livestock feed as they do not meet bread standards. Pitie 62 outyields Thatcher but ripens later. Glenlea yields slightly less but has larger kernels and earlier maturity. Export use is possible in some countries, but current markets are limited to livestock feed. Farmers are urged to take the MacGregor special crops course February 12 to 16 via Ag Rep.
