Whist Drive and Dance at Orange Hall Sees Strong Attendance

Last Tuesday evenings event drew a large crowd. Whist prize winners were first place Mrs. Burrows and Fred Smith, second place Mrs. F. C. Barton and Reg Palmer. A.K. Walker of Katrime notes farmers may apply for Rust Resistant wheat from the Dominion Cerealist, Experimental Farm in Ottawa.

Christmas notices brighten MacGregor events and holidays

Christmas week in MacGregor includes Boxing Day proclaimed in Manitoba, school holidays, audits by E H Floyd and J A Mills, a community hamper drive with Brittania Chapter and the Legion, and a Masonic Hall meeting by Miss Mabel Harbour on December 30th addressing The Kingdom in the New Testament. Dr A G MacKinnon spoke to pupils about Eskimo life.

Death of E. C. Hamblin Pioneer Resident of Rose Hill

The death of E. C. Hamblin aged 62 was reported in Portage la Prairie Hospital. A native of England, he came to Canada seventy years ago and began farming in Rosehill, becoming the last of its pioneer settlers. Funeral services were held Friday at MacGregor Cemetery, with pallbearers James Moore, Joseph Moore, William Moore, and Ben White, led by Rev. G L. Armstrong of St Pauls Church.

Christmas Observances At Local Churches Are Noted

The season of Christmas was fittingly observed in local churches with decorated interiors Yuletide carols sung by congregations and choirs and ministers delivering appropriate messages St Pauls Sunday School held its Christmas concert Saturday afternoon United Sunday School followed Tuesday night Santa Claus attended both events bringing gifts to participants.

Grand Opening of Portage la Prairie Rink

Portage la Prairie Rink prepares for a grand opening on January 16 with the Portage Terriers hosting the Monarch Club of Winnipeg. Tickets sold at one dollar for 2000 seats, special exchangeable reservations advised, proceeds support the Hockey Club. Tickets available from local officials and merchants in Portage and surrounding towns.

Ladies Curling Club Elect Officers for 1937

At a meeting in the rink on Saturday night the Ladies Curling Club elected officers for the coming season. President is Mrs Tretheney, Vice President Mrs TD Lamo, Secretary Treasurer Mrs R D Muir, Executive members include Mrs Williamson Mrs Sealey Mrs Gray and Mrs A Stinson. A number of skips were chosen and players are asked to leave names with the President or Secretary by Saturday Dec 25. The fee per player is fixed at $1.00.
