Austin Mourns Pioneer Alexander Booth
In Austin the death of Alexander Booth marks the loss of a respected pioneer. He faced years of poor health before passing peacefully on Saturday afternoon December 17. A Tarves Scotland native, Booth moved to Western Canada in 1889 and later partnered with Walter Clifford in flour milling and grain buying. He married Mary Ellen Gatley in 1896 and leaves four sons and a daughter, plus several brothers. He served on the Austin School Board and was a devoted Anglican, with a noted love of curling before the war. The funeral was held at Christ Church with a large crowd attending.
