Rural Council Sets Austin Water Rates

A village of Austin committee and Rural Municipality of North Norfolk council met on December 5 to set water rates for tank fills from the Pipeline. Rates are 25 cents per up to 300 gallons, 50 cents for 500 gallons, and $1 for 1,000 gallons, with monthly reviews. The council also approved selling a pressure system to Ben Funk for $65 and discussed street lighting cost increases of about $700. The annual Court of Revision heard appeals and returned the 1964 assessment roll to council. Discussions covered surface water, the Sidney-Firdale road at about $25,000 spent this year, and Portage la Prairie fire calls. Portage seeks $50 hourly plus $3 per man, but no agreement will be made due to an existing arrangement with MacGregor.
