Christmas Sunday service on December 19 at 11 am with two carol services read by the Girls Auxiliary. Christmas Eve service at 11:30 pm will be a Communion service with Rev C Lamb officiating. All welcome.
Austin and District news recounts visits and gatherings across families including Bert Grist staying with 0 Grist for a few days and Lioyd Young of Winnipeg visiting Routleys Jo-Anne Routley hosted schoolfriends for her seventh birthday. The Community Hall will host a New Years Eve dance with Grahams Orchestra and condolences are offered for Amann’s death.
What follows shows the school year note with room 1 welcoming Donald Sawat ky and Grade IX preparing for exams before Christmas. The Christmas contest is scheduled for Monday December 20 and students will have two weeks off afterward to catch up on homework.
The Austin Branch of the Red Cross elected J P Dodwell as president for the coming year at its annual meeting held in the Elevator office. Other officers named include Mrs P Hanson as vice president and Mrs R Outhwaite as treasurer assisted by Mrs James Durward in secretarial duties.
The Austin Ladies Curling Club held its annual meeting at Mrs C Wallace’s home on December 5. Officers elected include President Mrs P Ewen Vice President Mrs C Wallace Treasurer Mrs R Roosen. A bonspiel is planned and members were invited to sign up with Mrs P Ewen or Mrs R Roosen. Financial report shows cash on hand 196.06 at start 1954, 167.86 from lunches and bonspiel, dividends 610. Total 970.02.
The WMS of Austin United Church held its annual meeting at Mrs. G Graham's home on December 9 with 18 members present. President Mrs G Hay led, treasurer Mrs Harland reported funds met year’s allocation, and secretary Mrs McIntyre summarized activities and officer nominations for the coming year.
The WMS of Austin United Church presents a Christmas program in the church on Tuesday December 21 at 8 pm. A cordial invitation is extended to all.
A note of gratitude from E Halkyard thanking Drs Koziol and Sutton the nursing staff and others at Mac Gregor Hospital for gifts of fruit candy and cards during the stay and after returning home. Your kindness will long be remembered.
John Purkess expresses gratitude to friends in Southfeld Pratt and Great Carlton districts for wrenches given at a social evening before leaving the community. Adams family mourns Mrs. James Adams who died December 19, 1949, with fond memories kept by her children and family.
