Wheat Pool Early Payment Set at 85 Cents a Bushel
The Canadian Wheat Pool announces an initial payment of 85 cents per bushel for the 1928-29 crop, basis No 1 Northern at Fort William. Secretary E B Ramsay says the policy follows past practice with earlier Alberta pool starts at 75 cents and later years at 1.09 a bushel, and that this initial payment reflects opening market conditions, not final eventual prices. The pool is nearly sold out, and rumors of large wheat stocks are denied. The recent interim payment raised last year’s price to 1.40 per bushel, basis No 1 Northern, at Fort William.
