The Trench Silo for Winter Corn Storage on Farms
The trench silo offers a simple economical method using plow and scraper to form a long narrow pit with sloped smooth sides for packing ensilage. Brandon Experimental Farm tested a 12 ft top 8 ft bottom 5 ft deep 30 ft long silo with 45 tons capacity and recommends locating near feeding area and preventing surface water entry.
