Farmers Dump Wheat on Ground in Saskatchewan

Thousands of bushels lie on the ground in front of country elevators across Saskatchewan as frustrated farmers dump wheat. Piles include a 14,000-bushel mound at Alvena and a 12,000-bushel pile at Francis. Farmers blame delays delivering quotas for 1969-70 while rail boxcars are scarce, and elevators closed records after a crop year extension. The Wheat Board has promised producers a full four-bushel quota, but farmers demand written commitments.
