Harvest Operations Underway In The MacGregor District
Farmers in the MacGregor district began harvest with swathing and some combining. Yields are below recent years due to a hot dry summer with crops short and spotty. First grain deliveries include rye by Roy Leckie and Meffen Brothers at 15 bushels, while wheat samples range from 6 to 25 bushels per acre, averaging about 10 to 12. Coarse grains look poor across the district. most farmers hold seed and baled oats for feed.

Straw surplus and cattle feed guidance for Manitoba farmers
Manitoba specialists urge livestock operators to arrange straw supplies now as harvesting continues. Surplus areas like Boissevain Killarney Toulon Morris offer wheat barley and oats straw. baled straw sells for about 10 to 15 cents per bale. University researchers provide minimum roughage needs for cattle and note straw alone may not meet energy requirements.
