New Grain Delivery System Outlined
The Canadian Wheat Board announced a new delivery quota system for the crop year starting Aug 1. Chief Commissioner W C McNamara outlined a policy shift tying quotas to the federal wheat acreage reduction program with no general quota for wheat oats or barley at start. specific allocations to be set later. Quotas expire July 31. from Aug 1 delivery rules cap wheat five bushels per quota acre for soft white spring, with oats barley rye flax and rapeseed allocated under specific per quota acre rules and premiums to producers.

Government maintains payments despite large grain loss
Canada plans to keep initial payments to farmers for 1970 71 at 1.50 a bushel for top grade wheat 60 cents for oats and 91 cents for barley while losses from the 1968 69 crop are put at about 50 million dollars. Wheat board officials say export stocks are ample for immediate demand and focus will shift to other grains.

Freight Rate Increase Sought by 15 Canadian Railways
Applications for freight rate increases averaging four per cent have been filed with the Canadian transport commission by 15 railways including Canadian National and CP Rail. If approved, the new rates would take effect Sept. 1 and affect about 33 per cent of rail freight traffic. The changes fall within the restraint program aimed at keeping price rises below recent cost increases. The 1970 March 1 three per cent increase preceded this move, which is expected to generate about $16.5 million in additional revenue in one year.
