Stem Rust Hits Southern Manitoba and Saskatchewan Wheat
A federal agricultural report says stem and leaf rust are prevalent across southern Manitoba and widely distributed in Saskatchewan. Wheat and oats face rust with small overall losses due to resistance in Selkirk and Pembina varieties, but Durum Ramsey and Montcalm barley may suffer if rust worsens. Leaf rust affects Selkirk and Pembina in southern Manitoba and near Regina and Saskatoon, with infections likely as crops mature. Crown rust of oats is developing rapidly in southern Manitoba with moderately severe infections on lower leaves south of the Trans Canada highway.
