Payments To Be Sent Out Soon On Wheat Acreage Reduction
Regina wheat acreage reduction payments to about 2,000 Prairie farmers were delayed by a technicality in the Wheat Acreage Reduction Act. Federal Agriculture Minister James G. Gardiner said payments would be issued, clarifying the 1942 basis and covering 1943 acreage reductions. The amendment fixes rye wording removed in 1942 and explains 1941 rye payments. Gardiner noted the $2 per acre rate applies to land taken out of wheat in 1943, regardless of future use, with conditions on abandoning land. He discussed farm labor use for prisoners of war as impractical in Saskatchewan.
