Arbor Day and Community Notices From Manitoba Town

Arbor Day highlighted with a public holiday in Manitoba. Council sets May 5 meeting in MacGregor. MacGregor Dancing Club to start new series April 30 at Masonic Hall. Masquerade dance May 11 in Orange Hall hosted by Golden Star Lodge L.O.B.A. Admission 50c. Town crews relocate fire hall north of the Drug Store, re-roof, cement floor, and ready access roads. Civic pride urged with a town clean-up campaign to reduce fire risk and improve appearance, encouraging plantings and beautification.

Baseball Club reorganizes and plans league efforts

MacGregor Athletic Club held a Friday meeting to reorganize the Baseball Club appointing R. Lamb as manager and Mel MacDonald as captain. Aiming to improve the new diamond, a committee will meet the Agricultural Society on May 5 to discuss the project. They hope to form a league with Austin, Sidney, and Ellsmith as last year’s players return.

United Church Presbytery Meet at Carberry

The United Church Presbytery of Portage la Prairie met at Carberry on Tuesday. Rev. T B Pearson and John Emerson represented MacGregor and Beaver. The Maintenance and Extension Fund sought 19500 but raised about 1800, with MacGregor and Beaver contributing about 450. Resignations including Rev T B Pearson were received and sent to the Settlement committee.

The McGregor couple now live at J R Watson's house while Watson and Audrey and Jefferson reside with R Cutting at Pathead. Bolton Wanderers won the English FA Cup at Wembley Stadium beating Manchester City one to nil before over 100000 fans. The Grain Growers Association, now United Farmers of Manitoba, died in Virden at eighty four, leaving a long public spirited career.
