Rains Dampen Hopes For Early Seeding
Manitoba reports one inch rains across many areas reducing early seeding momentum. Regions including Waskada Deloraine Killarney Somerset and Morden have started but heavy soils and Red River Valley moisture delay widespread planting until May. Wheat acreage may total about two and a half million acres with rises in sunflowers corn field peas and canning crops. Pasture prospects look good though MacGregor sees little seeding due to wet land from last fall and spring.
