Manitoba probes three year council terms
A draft revision of the Manitoba Municipal Act studied by a Legislative committee proposes three year terms for municipal councils in Manitoba. The plan would replace the present two year system by aligning all council terms to three years, with half up for election each year and a one year layoff in 1971 to reset schedules. The draft allows councils to revert to annual elections in a third year after 1972. Elections would occur the third Wednesday in November, with councils elected this year a month later than current practice.

Four Manitoba Divisions Vote For Unitary School System
Two of four southern Manitoba school divisions voted last week to adopt the unitary school system. Morris McDonald favored 751 to 629 and Western division 678 to 535. Mountain and Pembina Valley divisions voted to remain outside the system. The unitary setup allows larger provincial grants and most districts had favored it in earlier referendums.
