Same Rights on Tax Rebates for Winnipeg Areas
Manitoba legislature heard NDP member Saul Cherniak press for equal school tax rebate rights between Winnipeg and St Boniface and other areas. He argued only one tax certificate exists in Winnipeg and St Boniface regardless of parcel count, unlike outside areas where each parcel yields a certificate. Legislation last year set rebates at 50 percent of school taxes up to 50 per certificate, funded by taxes projected to raise over 22 million annually.

He spoke amid discussion of the Pioneer program to develop the Precambrian mineral potential, warning about who would reap benefits.
