Disease Resistant Wheats Offer Limited Seed Supplies
Highly disease resistant wheats have been announced by the associate committee on field crop diseases at its fifth annual meeting in Winnipeg. Of 33 strains tested in 1932, at least six are suitable for distribution to farmers, but only small quantities of seed are available now. It will take two seasons to reach the needed quantity as commercial milling tests and field trials continue to narrow the strains to two or three best suited to diverse wheat-growing areas. Efforts will push to increase seed production as rapidly as possible.
