Rural North Norfolk Hopes Jackson Lake Area Becomes Park

The Rural Municipality of North Norfolk and Manitoba parks branch seek to keep the Jackson Lake area as parkland with planned development by the Manitoba planning commission. A recent meeting at the Jackson Lake dam site included Spruce Woods Wildlife Association members and church camp groups. An order-in-council prohibits leasing sites. Council appointed Willis and Manns to a committee on the area and approved Pine Creek School Division survey funding. The Portage Co-op fuel tender was accepted and road operators will be paid $2 per hour from April 1, 1968. Preliminary 1968 budget figures were discussed for a special April budget session.

Protest Meeting at Austin On School Transfer Changes

A large crowd gathered at the Austin Collegiate to protest the plan to move Austin Collegiate area students to MacGregor and elementary children to Austin. Pinecreek Division leaders defended the move citing broader course options and shorter overall bus times, while residents urged delegation talks with the board and clarity on funding and transportation.

Esau Family Reunion Held at Abe Esau Home

A March 31 family reunion at the home of Mr and Mrs Abe Esau drew many relatives from across Canada. Attending were Saskatoon visitors Herman and four children, Kelowna transplants. Winnipeg guests Frank and daughter, John with two boys, Henderson with son, Stan Delaine, and Bill Esau. Sharon Giesbrecht and Mr and Mrs Jewell joined, with Mrs Jewell related to Mrs Esau. Susan Ruth and Margaret helped prepare a dinner and Fred Clark photographed the gathering.

Eddie Cass Speaks At Sportsman's Dinner in Austin

Eddie Cass and H. Sur atte of Winnipeg headlined a Sportsman's Dinner hosted by the Austin Minor Hockey Association at Austin Community Hall on Friday April 5. Alex Beresford emceed and gave a blessing, noting rookies showing promise for next year. Reeve Chas. Hotel offered welcome, Doug Cronk received a wallet, and Choralists performed as Cass delivered an engaging pep talk urging players to honor parents and coach with their best effort. A Pan Am Games film by Mr. Surette of Sports and Tourism capped the evening.

New Beauty Salon Opens in MacGregor

On Tuesday this week Jackie’s Beauty Salon began operations in the MacGregor laundromat area, run by Tacqueline Fox. The new business marks another local entry in the town’s service sector.

Return from Trip to Long Beach

Mr and Mrs Ed Chant have returned from a two week visit to Long Beach California with Eds niece Gladys Sheridan They toured Beverly Hills Disneyland Marineland and the Mission San Capistrano Saw many oil wells along the coast and spent an evening with Ivan Stewart and Pearl Briscoe They arrived home April 2 and drove into a blizzard in Winnipegs

Wally Arthur named Imperial Oil agent for MacGregor district

W. C. (Wally) Arthur appointed Imperial Oil agent for the MacGregor district succeeding Murray Litster. He previously served as Canadian Pacific Railway agent in 1965 in the area and plans to move his family here after the current school term.

Shower Honors Sandra Kelly at Memorial Hall

On Saturday evening April 3 a miscellaneous shower was held in Memorial Hall in honor of Miss Sandra Kelly a bride elect of April 20. The hall was decorated with yellow and mauve streamers candles and Easter flowers. Corsages were pinned on Sandra and other honored guests Susan Pettitt and Mary McKelvy. Easter eggs housed the gifts as Easter bunnies Lorna Butterfield and Dawn Berry carried them in while hostesses sang songs to Easter Parade and Peter Cottontail.

Chamber of Commerce Plans Village Survey

The Brandon chamber held its Thursday meeting with 14 members present. Peter Stobie, a Canada Pension Plan fieldman, discussed benefits available under the plan. The chamber will conduct a survey in the village, leaving yes no questionnaires at every home with space for comments. Questionnaires will be collected and tabulated, extra copies placed in business places for those outside the severed area.

After months of planning and visits to McCreary Baldur Crystal City Glenboro Steinbach and Boissevain the MacGregor and District Community Centre is poised to become a reality A planning meeting is set for April 22 to discuss the projected complex type and cost figures with a nominating committee in progress.

March of Dimes Nets $450 for MacGregor District

The March of Dimes campaign in MacGregor and district raised over 450. Contributions came from MacGregor Elementary School and MacGregor Collegiate, plus canvassing of businesses, residences, and mail donations. A planning meeting will present committee names and urge all district residents to attend.

Merit System Adopted By Rifle Club at MacGregor

The MacGregor Centennial Junior Rifle Club adopts a merit system with a season end prize for the top member. Last week Roger Pogue earned a gold pin for firing 10 targets of 98 or more in prone. A conservation officer will speak Thursday, showing films.
