Maples items and local lore stir memories of Portage la Prairie
A fragment from Maples recounts letters from Ben Richardson of Portage la Prairie noting dates tied to local history. It recalls a fire at the mill and elevator in 1902, a prior mill boat burn in 1889, a derelict jail, spring carpenters building Critchlow Garage, and odd anecdotes about a hen with an eye eight inches long.
