Daring mutiny aboard the Esher ends in perilous voyage
On June 22 1771 aboard the Esher a mutiny led by Charles Finnie resulted in Finnie being thrown overboard. Capt. Dann and Dr Bolton were spared when a revolting crew seized the deck, attempted murder, and planned to land them at desolate islands before seeking profit in Brazil. Spanish navigator Francisco Maffo and others resisted, leading to a miraculous reassertion of control by Dann.
