As You Like It at Drury Lane Theatre Review

The Drury Lane rendition of As You Like It is praised for entertaining scenes and sprightly dialogue though some unities are broken and certain episodes seem retarded. The cast is well supported, with notable pleasure from the speech “All the world’s a stage” and the overall production deemed excellent and satisfying. An English Burletta by Mr. O Hara is also discussed, noted for humor but shortened to two acts. performed well and highly entertaining on the stage.

Oroonoko: A Tragedy at Covent Garden Theatre

The Covent Garden Theatre opened October 2 with Southerne’s Oroonoko, a famed tragedy first staged in 1696. Critics deem it Southerne’s most perfect and most pathetic dramatic work.
