Last night reports from Europe describe a newly established Imperial garrison at Straubing restricting movement of Wetsels from Passau and interrupting trade with Vienna. Prussian forces report near Prague and Bavarian towns fall to Austrian advances as the campaign shifts.
Letters from the Orkneys report two large ships wrecked on South Ronaldsay and Sunda Island with no survivors. one carrying timber iron tar, the other full of fire arms. Hudson's Bay ships arrive with reports of two French privateers firing on Prince Rupert, chased toward the Isle of May by Hector Man of War. privateers land crew at Casterland near Bervie and steal livestock.
On Wednesday last the ship John and Thomas of Yarmouth, captained by Harry, was left on the Cockle near Yarmouth Roads. The crew, with much difficulty, were saved.
The Dutchess Dowager of Marlborough dated August 11, 1744 wills private burial at Blenheim and bequests to Dr Stephens, Mrs Ridley, Mrs Pattison, Olive Lofft, and many others, including lands, jewels, and annuities. She directs a historic biography by Glover and Mallet, funded by 100 pounds each and printed with Chesterfield approval, and sets conditions on her grandson John Spencer and his heirs regarding pensions and offices.
