Varied life ends for Edward Wortley Montague
Edward Wortley Montague died returning from Venice to England. He led a remarkable life, with a string of wives and exotic travels from Egypt to Spain and Italy. He served in Parliament, published works on Rome and earthquakes, spoke many languages, and mingled public honors with personal excesses. His obituary notes his rare talents and a merciful judgment for his final fate.
