Sturdy-Beggar Captures Spanish Brig Prize at Havana Route

Scotland dispatches report that Capt Alexander Belfhies master of the Sturdy Beggar son of Alexander Belfhies of Innermay arrived at Charles Town from the Bay of Honduras with a new English built Spanish Brig taken near the Bay of Honda. The brig was bound from the Havannah to La Vera Cruz and laden with cocoa and other goods, hailed as a very considerable prize.

Deaths in Gloucester and Jamaica connections noted

Gloucester on May 1 reports the death of Mrs. Hayward widow of Thomas Hayward of Quedgly and daughter of Major-General Selwyn late Jamaica governor. Also, the Rev. Mr. Alexander head master of the College School died. From Bradford, a fire Friday destroyed part of Mr. Showell’s clothier dwelling and several thatched work-houses causing considerable damage.
