Shortening Parliaments and the Placed in Commons

A letter to the Printer of the London Evening Post argues that Mr Sawbridge’s push to shorten Parliaments is the nation's best bet against placemen and pensioners in the House. It claims the current Commons undermines the constitution and that the people have a right to remove an unconstitutional House by any means, invoking Salus populi, uprima lex.

Potatoes: spacing and hoeing improve yield in old farms

Belfield near Rochdale discusses how yield depends on root quality, not plant count, citing Tull on soil food limits. He advises wide spacing, thorough soil stirring, and careful hoeing, with two-row ploughing or hoe-plough methods to keep roots unobstructed and stems healthy for robust crops.

Method for Ploughing and Laying Fets in Field Drills

The passage describes leveling level fields with ploughing and furrowed lines two feet apart. A boy drops fets every fifteen to sixteen inches as the furrows are made and returned. A ploughman plus two horses and two boys can finish much land in a day. After planting, harrowing levels the ground. In dry soil this is best. in moist ground use ridges four to five feet apart with fets on top. Furrow depth varies with soil: five to six inches dry and light, three to four inches in moist heavy soil.

Financial values and bond quotes noted in market listing

The column lists Consols and India Bonds traded at various fractions and prices, Navy and Victual Bills, long annuities, and ticket numbers. It also includes high tide timings for London Bridge with morning and afternoon readings across days.
