Court and crime notes from Bridewell and London streets
Last Wednesday a Bridewell court tried and discharged petty criminals while continuing some cases. The annual Freemasons style court confirmed officers for this and Bethlem Hospitals. Reports recount accidents to Mr. Mackreth and Dr Shaw’s coach, storms in Hull, a collapse in Grafton Street, a murder trial at Cambridge resulting in acquittal, and various robberies and assaults in Berwick Street, Tottenham Court, and Dockhead. Letters from Jamaica and Fort Mahon note privateer actions and captured ships. Financial market updates and a voyage tragedy near Anamabo accompany the lengthy dispatches.
