Notice for August racing at Shaftsbury Downs near Shaftsbury with purses of twenty guineas and ten guineas. Entry fees set by contributor status, weight allowances, and penalties. George Inn entry deadlines, refunds, and a ball for ladies announced.
On Tuesday the 21st of August a purse of fifteen guineas will be run for at Wyford Downs near Winchester Hampshire. Best of three heats for horses mares or geldings that never won above 20 hands in plate or money, weighing 11 stone including bridle and saddle. Entrance half a guinea. no contributor four guineas, each horse paying half a crown to the clerk of the course. Entries close Friday between 3 and 5 pm at the post. Stakes go to the second horse. On Wednesday the 22nd a purse of ten guineas for those under 14 hands to carry weight as shown, no winner previously, entry half a guinea plus half a crown to the clerk of the course. Entries close Saturday between 3 and 5 pm at the port, or double entrance on starting day. Disputes settled by a majority of subscribers present.
August racing at the Old Field Course Ludlow Shropshire features three Plate events with fifty, twenty, and thirty pound values. Conditions require horses hunters and nags, entry fees, certificates, and town keeping rules, with cocking matches at the Angel Inn each morning.
A brown mare about thirteen and a half hands high with two white saddle spots on the near side and a small white spot by the near ear, switch tail, seven or eight years old. Stolen between Saturday night and Sunday morning the 7th and 8th. Reward one guinea plus reasonable costs. Notify Mr Thomas Bout in George Yard Southwark or Mr Thomas Harrison.
