A large assembly of gentlemen with substantial property pressed the country interest at Ipswich Races in July 1739. They urged unified support for governance and colonial measures, noting past letters of marque and the need for disciplined naval instruction from Whitehall. The week also recorded social casualties and market movements in South Sea securities and shares.
Notice from Customs at Dartmouth condemns goods for sale including 1164 gallons brandy 1284 gallons rum 30 gallons Geneva 2135 pounds tobacco with duties cleared. Maidstone and Westminster races advertised on July 1819, July 22 23 24 events with purses and entry fees, entries due days before race, details for weights and conditions.
Denbigh races on August 7 8 and 9 offer purses of thirty fifteen and fifty guineas for horses mares and geldings carried weights and entry fees two guineas or four at the post. Ludlow races later include events on August 27 28 and 29 with heats certificates ages and subscriber rules plus entry charges and conditions to run only if properly qualified.
