Oxford Celebrates Benefactors of University in Theatre
On July 4 in Oxford a commemorative ceremony followed Lord Crew's institutions. Nobility, three bishops, heads of houses, and doctors walked in procession from the Vice Chancellor’s lodgings to the Theatre. Several pieces of music were played and honorary degrees awarded to Doctors of Civil Law including The Right Hon. Lord Temple and Sir Watkin Williams Wynn. A later meeting at the George Inn discussed a navigable canal from Chesterfield joining the Liverpool canal, but the scheme was overruled by a large majority of landowners and gentlemen.
