Shipwreck and Rescue Near Cape Finisterre from a Royal Coffe Regiment
An 18th century account describes a ship sailing from Ritzee to Gibraltar that sprang a leak and sank. Captain Neal and many officers perished as soldiers and sailors struggled in a doomed attempt to abandon ship. Surviving crew, aided by the Royal Coffee regiment from Rhe, endured beaching on a Spanish shore, with Count de Genlis and others guiding rescue efforts. The narrative honors the French and American aid, while noting a later publication dispute over an American atlas and map accuracy.
