Execution of three men at Newcastle for counterfeiting and horse stealing

In Newcastle on the previous Saturday morning James Maben was hanged for counterfeiting the current coin of Great Britain, John Samuel for aiding Maben, and Thomas Lidster for horse stealing. Maben, long noted for an unreligious life, died bravely but later professed belief in God and a future life, arguing even the wicked may face temporal punishment rather than eternal torment.
