The directors voted to reappoint Messrs. Maclean and White as Auditors for the present year. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the Chairman proposed by Mr. Hertz.
The third annual general meeting of Hatt and Hatz Co operative Company and the first ordinary meeting of the new Hall and Holtz Co operative Company Limited were held on April 30 at Nanking road Shanghai. E W Rice presided as directors presented the audited balance sheet and accounts ending February 28 1886. The balance available for distribution was Rs 27193 60 with a 5 percent dividend proposed. Directors for the current year were elected: H E W Rice J Morris G Galles E Byrne and W H Short.
Commissioner of Customs Mr. Kopsch relinquished charge on April 16 to his successor Mr. Kleinwichter and departed on long leave. Local officials the Taoutai Prefect and Magistrate traveled to the steamer jetty to bid him farewell in a rare honor.

Canton correspondent reports a magistrate bound and blindfolded by pirates while en route to Canton in a junk. His servant was killed, ransom hopes failed, and the captor arranged for his long, perilous journey in a rickety boat with an old rower who begged for money to buy food.
