Distress in Szehhuen Province Prompted Rice Aid Plan
The Gazette notes great distress in Szehhuen due to floods across Chihli Szechuen and Kwantung with orders to appropriate 200,000 and call neighboring provinces to send rice. Thunderstorms hit Shanghai April 13 damaging a shutter and sparking varied rumors among locals. The Asiatic Society met on April 17 with new elections and a life of Han-yu paper. The Shanghai and Hongkew Tramway Company proposed a 120000 capital line between City East Gate and Hongkew lower limits. The Lyceum theatre project, Spring Rifle Meeting, burial guidance, and rice tax relief were also reported.
