The French mail dated as above arrived via Naples this morning. No later Japan advices via San Francisco. The next inward mail left Alexandria yesterday and should reach London by Saturday. The heavy portion of the last inward mail arrived at Southampton yesterday aboard the Mongolia.
List of inward passengers arriving by Messageries Maritimes Yangts¢ to Marseilles, Koning der Nederlanden from Batavia to Amsterdam, Occidental Oceanic to San Francisco, and Deucalion Holt's line. Names include M Hangmans J de Crane Horsting Horsting Goedbloed J J La Cave and many families among others. Also noted is expected arrival from Penang with Mr and Mrs Romer and child.
Passenger lists show destinations from Southampton Brindisi and Venice to Yokohama Shanghai Hong Kong Singapore Batavia Galle and Colombo. Names include Mr Wm Powell Rev Irvine Major Papillon Dr Henderson and Mrs Lewis with multiple accompanying spouses and children aboard P and O and Messageries Maritimes vessels during late 1879 and early 1880.
Notes from Helos from the Far East Advices report sparse events with rumors that China opposed to Japan over Loochoo while Japan solidifies its case. The Tokyo Chamber of Commerce released a treaty revision stance advocating high import duties and exclusive use of Japanese coin for customs.
