Isaac Hazlehurst a 3 collier was tried at Leeds assizes for murdering his wife on Sunday March 17. After a drinking party he ordered her to bed and later, after a quarrel, caused head wounds kicks and two broken ribs. He admitted the act and was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment.

Fire brigades battled blazes yesterday at sea and on land. The Garth Castle steamship wheel-house burned at East India Dock basin Blackw. Extensive damage occurred before flames were tamed. A small fire struck a printer's premises at College-hill City shortly after midnight. A cocoa-nut matting works at Tenter-street Whitechapel suffered severe damage to a two-storey factory and its contents. A minor fire lit at 25 Rochester row in an unoccupied premise later in the day.

April 1887 imports valued at 1 149 9254 showing a rise of 5 083 171 from the previous year. First four months total 123 423 071 increasing by 10 622 472 from 1886. April exports 316 411 662 down 16 142 from 1886. Four month exports 70 477 613 rising 1 952 949 from 1886.

Accidents and Robbery Report from the Garrick Club Area

Mr Henry Irving escaped injury after his cab collided with a van near Garrick Street and Martin's Lane and overturned. he continued playing last night. In a separate case, 67 year old J Paterson Stilling was assaulted in an attempted robbery on the 30th ult and remained under care after his dying depositions were noted by a magistrate and at Middlesex Hospital.
