Private R G Fairhead arrives by Monday night train, greeted at the depot by Major Hill. He took part in a bayonet charge with fifty comrades. only six reached their trenches. Wounded by a German shell in his trench, he was severely injured but now shows signs of recovery. He previously worked for Mr Ernest Sutton on a farm north of the area.
The University of Alberta reports 131 men enlisted for active service from students and staff. Six teaching staff and ninety five students have joined various Edmonton university companies and regiments, with additional members in regiments from other regions and the Old Country. The bulletin notes Alberta’s and Dominion universities’ contribution to the imperial war effort and upholds British traditions of service.
