Oxville Notes election by-law and council actions

In Oxville June issue voters approved Free Range By-law 2 by a 28 point margin over the 50 percent threshold as Stoddart won a council seat, while Young trailed and Woodruff finished third. The council met, Stoddart debuted, and By-law No. 2 takes effect July 1. A court challenge from Herd Law supporters is noted but deemed unlikely to alter the outcome.

Marriage of Thomas Slater and Julia Belanger in Onion Lake

Harlan notes report the June 10 1915 marriage of Thomas Slater second son of Mr and Mrs T J Slater of Harlan to Miss Julia Belanger of Onion Lake in Onion Lake Roman Catholic Church. Rev Cunningham officiated. Attendants were Miss McCleneghan and best man Mr Arthur Beatty. A reception and dance followed at the Slater home and Walker’s house with about 90 friends attending. The evening featured flashlight photographs and the celebration ended around 3 am with guests enjoying the event.
