Eighth Council Meeting in Marshall Notes Taxes and Roads

The eighth monthly meeting of the Council at the Marshall Municipal Office had all members present. Minutes approved, accounts of 3600 passed. Arrears for n.w. 36-46.27 and 2.10.47.25 cancelled. A motion urged Premier to secure fair tax share for autos to fund metal roads. Goubenour allowed Taylor's claim for gopher poisoning. Secretary authorized to cover Eagle Butte School District funds as stated. Roads inquiry from Creseman and Wyer. Goubenour to pursue. Next meeting Aug 28 with Court of Revision to hear appeals.

Nine Years Ago New Northern Bank Branch Opens

Nine years ago on Monday the Northern Bank opened a temporary new branch at Johns and Thompson’s corner Broadway and Church Street. The new Methodist Church on Main Street nears completion with Rev J B Naylor and builders praised. A Gully Church building bee ran smoothly with twelve gentlemen aiding. more work remains. District crops look fine and the Canadian Elevator Co. plans an elevator near the track with lumber already arriving.

Local tradesmen suffer accident. Beaton and Hill in dispute

Mr reenetreet lies in hospital with a foot injury described as serious after an accident. Beaton and Hill, Carmneae partners, hoped to secure a share of local business. Beaton is well known as a reliable workman and both may be counted on to give satisfaction.

Municipal notes and tax rate for 1915 discussed

The council reviews 1915 taxes set at 5 mills reduced rate and authorizes borrowing 400 for municipal use. Accounts show 435.66 due. Acres assessed listed for 1916 134,104 and earlier years 198,354 122,506 190,081 111,000. Next meeting at the Reeve's call.

A Reuters dispatch from Pretoria reports about a 5000 women protest with 500 delegates petitioning Viscount Buxton for General Christian De Wet and other rebels awaiting trial. The Governor-General said he cannot grant clemency but will seek minister Piet Grobler's view. Grobler is a Parliament member and Kruger grandson. De Wet was sentenced to six years for treason. another figure, Tranavaal president Kruger, faces two years and a 2500 fine for high treason.

Co-Operative Society Expands Operations in Town

Co-Operative Secretary T. A. Wright reports the local Co-Operative Association is in good shape to handle growing business. The society now occupies its own premises north of the CNR Main Street crossing with weigh scales installed and a spur track hoped for soon. The telephone line is installed and Mr Wright is ready to provide information on the institution’s workings.

Streamstown Municipal Minutes Record Council Actions

The Streamstown Council met at Bell Camp School House with all members present. A grant of 890 each was approved for the Lloydminster Alberta Agricultural Society and the Kit Seoty Agricultural Society. Judge Crawford fixed October for the Court of Confirmation of the Tax Enforcement Return at the Masonic Hall. A petition to declare Township 51 2 a free range district was approved to take effect October 1, 1916, despite dissent. The accounts were passed for payment and the next meeting set for October 2 at 1 am.
