London May 25 Austria strikes with navy and air power along the northeastern frontier. Italy launches a rapid advance pushing into Austrian territory along the Thorn river and forces an Austrian retreat. Rome signals two main movements toward the Carpathians and Trieste area, promising severe fighting as the European conflict widens.
A Canadian prisoner at Geissen, Germany, reports being well treated and health cared for. He notes clean living, regular meals, coffee, and comfort, but recalls exposure to heavy shelling during the breakout and injuries from shrapnel.
