Prees Community Notes of Local Week

The issue records a variety of short items from Prees and nearby: Mr. and Mrs. W. Rowe spent the weekend in Regina. a council meeting is planned for Saturday Feb 2. J J Row, Maul Rosten, Fred McQuinigal and Jeane Duruler conducted business in Imperial. Fred Wille returned from a two week course in gas engine instruction in the capital. A dance is arranged for Friday evening at the Liberty hotel dining room. The Red Cross at Prebyterian Church meets Feb 7 at 7 30 p.m with tea served. Mis Lawson Davidson visited from out of town and a horse owned by Erwin Wiley was injured. Regina is described as a lively place with military activity affecting locals. Mr and Mrs H R Allen returned from a three month trip south of the border. Mr Allen underwent appendicitis surgery in Rochester Minn. A new stage will be built in the church basement for entertainments. The Liberty district young people stage a benefit program next Tuesday Feb 5 for Red Cross. Upcoming improvements to the Pres church plans are delayed, while the guest Old Man Kheume remains in town. Next Sunday Feb 3 the Presbyterian pastor will speak on Does Religion Pay from a business perspective. The Pen Sense Presbyterian annual meeting held Jan 22 reports progress, with special note of the building committee and church finances. Sabbath school meets every Sunday at 1 45.

Cold Weather Returns to Ontario and Coal Shortage

The report notes extreme cold in Ontario with temperatures reaching 20 degrees below zero and damp winds. A coal shortage worsens domestic supply, forcing some residents to switch to wood as fuel. Thomas Beggs Wounded and Missing in Action

Word arrives that Irish-born Thomas Beggs, a district farmer for five years, is wounded and missing after serving with the 188th battalion in winter 1916. He is believed to have been on the firing line. friends hope missing may indicate capture and eventual return.
