U S intelligence officers today cited South Korean informers reporting overheard Communist officers planning to move Maj Gen William F Dean from Chongju stockade to Seoul. Dean, commander of the U S 24th Division, has been missing since the July Taejon retreat. Chongju fell Tuesday.
In New York British delegates pressed a four point plan for a postwar Korea to the United Nations, aiming for an independent united Korea under UN supervision with Asian nations forming most of a supervising commission. Pearson urged free elections, UN aid, and military backing against domination while cautioning neighboring powers.
An official report says rebel Karen tribesmen ambushed a bus near Mergul on the south Burma coast killing 27 people and wounding 16, with two policemen among the dead. The attack used a hand grenade followed by rifle fire.
Umpfrey Barton and Kevin O Riordan of Lymington Hampshire set out to cross the Atlantic in the 25 foot Vertue yacht. His mother Lois M Tipp 39 a red haired divorcee is in custody for questioning with no charges filed. Two bullets were found in the boy's head.
Stefan S. Sorokin, 40, a Russian descent religious worker, is named the new spiritual leader of the Sons of Freedom Doukhobors in British Columbia. He replaces the Verigin line and aims to bring peace to the Kootenays after the group elected him while many members were in prison. Sorokin, a displaced person from Germany, had served on a BC government committee that recommended parole for 395 Doukhobors.
A coroner's jury viewed the body of John Cameron a 72 year old irrigation district resident five miles southeast of Lethbridge who died in a local hospital Wednesday night from injuries after being struck by a 1935 Pontiac coupe driven by James Boswell of 522 Fifth Street South Cameron who had very poor eyesight was crossing No 4 highway when hit at about 615 pm police said The inquest was adjourned for two weeks or 10 days and no survivors were listed
Mrs. Charles B. Knox, chairman of the board of directors of the Charles B. Knox Gelatin Company, died at her home in Johnstown New York. She was 92. Mrs Knox led the firm in earlier years, founded here by her late husband.
Long Beach California on September 28 a bus driver Kenneth Fahs dropped two rolls containing 100 tokens. They rolled in all directions sparking a scramble as passengers tried to retrieve them. They returned 104 of them to Fahs.
German police cleared the West German Communist Party headquarters in Düsseldorf to allow British troop reinforcements.
