Murphy's Law Opens 1963 Canada Winter Games Parade

The 1963 Canada Winter Games opened with Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau in Chicoutimi Quebec. The Newfoundland delegation was briefly left out of the parade due to a last minute script mishap, causing disappointment but ending with a show of unity as Newfoundland athletes saluted the crowd. Events run through February 25 including badminton boxing alpine skiing and hockey with roughly 2000 athletes competing.

Kochettes defend to a 77 44 win over SAIT Helenas

LCC Kochettes used tenacious defense to defeat SAIT Helenas 77 44 in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference action at SCC. Cathy Bergen-Henengouwen anchored the middle with 12 points and several blocks while Margo Dzuren led with 16 points, many on fast breaks. The team built a 34-15 halftime lead and will host Mount Royal next.

McDonald hits 50 goals but earns no bonus

Buccaneers to play Sunday exhibition after coaches' deaths

Tim O'Donnell said the Buccaneers will proceed with Sunday's 2 p.m. exhibition at the Tabor Community Centre against the Elk Valley Blazers despite the Thursday deaths of coach Bruce Wills and general manager Fred Harrington.
