Prime Minister St Laurent announced in the Commons that the current session will adjourn until February 14, 1951 and that legislation may modify parliamentary allowances for senators and MPs. The move follows a WW II practice, with recalls possible if events require. The session was to finish by Friday after addressing emergency legislation and costs.
The Economic Cooperation Administration approved 44.926 million dollars for Marshall plan goods and services across 15 western European countries. The United Kingdom was allocated 25.9 million dollars for raw cotton and non metallic minerals from the United States and Canada.

President Truman abruptly dismissed Louis A. Johnson and asked Gen. George C. Marshall to succeed him as secretary of defense. Marshall, age 69, announced his acceptance from his Leesburg Virginia home. Critics say Johnson bore blame for defense weaknesses highlighted by the Korean War and for a cited misstatement on timing after a Soviet attack.
A Cree man Francis Moocheweines, 42, wanted for his sister in law’s murder, was found dead on a hill near the Frog Lake Indian Agency school. Police dispute cause, noting a rifle found nearby, and investigators question whether it was suicide. Inspector Chisholm led the hunt and observed the scene from the air.

Canada faces a pork export shortfall as domestic demand soars. Officials say UK bacon orders for 60 million pounds this year are delayed, with 15 million purchased by August and 45 million planned in the last four months. Hog marketings up 215 percent through August, while domestic use up 25 percent.
The Canadian Wheat Board on Tuesday fixed a delivery quota of 12 bushels per acre for wheat, oats and barley across seven points in Manitoba, fifteen in Saskatchewan, and 34 in Alberta. The basic quota remains eight bushels. Tokyo Sept 13 Reuters reports two United States army boats with 28 men aboard are missing on a voyage from Kobe to Okinawa. Kyodo News Agency said the boats vanished after leaving Kobe. Search efforts were underway.
On September 13 Raynold Titthkosky, a farmer, picked up a new tractor at nearby Morden and began home. He was later found dead by the roadside beneath the overturned machine. RC-MLP investigators are probing the incident.
