Western European Union foreign ministers meet with a central agenda of linking the Brussels group with Canada and the United States in a North Atlantic pact. Bevin may conditionally back a French Belgian plan for a Western European parliament, tied to stronger intergovernmental coordination.
In Hill Staffordshire the clock at St Michael’s Church opposite the Alma Inn fell silent, prompting the landlord and patrons to seek a fix. Senator Gerald Verner White died in Pembroke Ontario after weeks of illness. A Conservative appointed to the senate November 6 1919 by Sir Robert Borden’s government, he was born July 6 1879 in Pembroke and educated locally and at McGill University. He is survived by his widow and daughter. The death brings the senate vacancies to fourteen with Liberals sixty three Conservatives nineteen and fourteen vacancies.
Reuters reports a military revolt has broken out in Asuncion Paraguay amid a long political crisis. Natalicia Gangalez, elected as sole candidate last August, has assumed the presidency while exiled former president Higinio Mo Tinigo fled to Argentina, and the five month civil war saga still echoes.
Vienna reports composer Franz Lehar aged 78 died Sunday in Bac Ischl after a two year illness. The Merry Widow author left world famous operettas such as The Land of Smiles and The World Is Beautiful. Funeral planned for next Saturday with burial beside his mother and wife.

Mrs. T. A. Patterson of Chesley sustained a broken neck in an automobile accident but did not realize the injury for eight days. Ongoing discomfort led to X rays, and she is now recovering in hospital.
Three Taber duck hunters die after a boat overturns on Fincastle Lake nine miles east of Taber and four miles northeast of Fincastle around 5 p m. Parley Hill 26 Walter Myre 24 drown and Allan Jensen 35 dies en route to hospital. Community mourns as searchers use boats and grappling gear to locate missing men.
Raymond Nakamura a well known early Japanese resident of Raymond was found dead Sunday about 12 30 a m after his small cottage burned. Neighbors saw a small fire and firemen found Nakamura dead on the floor. There was no sign of violence and no inquest. He was unmarried aged 29 with no known relatives in Raymond.
