Country Club Smoker Saturday Night Event

Duck Experiment Aims to Lure Ducks to Lakes

MEDICINE HAT Oct 19 An effort by Ducks Unlimited Canada to plant more than 24 tons of a new round stem plant in Eastern Irrigation District lakes aims to attract diver puddle ducks pintails and mallards. Fred C. Sharpe of Tilley regional fieldman spoke at a fish and game executive meeting about the project already underway.

Fusari Stops Tony Pellone in Chicago Bout

In Chicago at the stadium a hard 10 round featherweight clash ended when Charhe Fusari halted Tony Pellone at 1:44 of the last round. Referee Johnny Behr stopped Pellone after he staggered to his feet from a heavy pounding. Fusari, of Irvington New Jersey, weighed 148 pounds while Pellone, from Greenwich Village New York, weighed 146 and a half.

Cleveland Barons Win Home Opener Over Flyers 3 to 1

Cleveland Barons defeated the St. Louis Flyers 3 to 1 in their home opener before 7,256 fans. Roy Kelly opened the scoring at 8:59 of the first period, Al Bacarro tied for St. Louis, Murdo MacKay restored the lead for Cleveland at 1:19 of the second, and Les Douglas sealed the win with a final-minute tally.

Alberta duck and pheasant seasons amid drought and floods

A May to June drought and floods across Southern Alberta and Manitoba hurt waterfowl, with Pintails severely reduced while Mallards fare better. Pheasant season in Eastern Irrigation District ends Oct 24 by local hunters and Alberta Fish and Game Association. other regions keep the season until Nov 11. Ducks are down slightly, though water bodies are fewer and some hunters wait for birds to mature. Goose populations remain excellent in southern Alberta per Ducks Unlimited.
