Canadian forces honor 178 soldiers at Dieppe with decorations led by Victoria Cross recipient Col Merritt Vancouver. The list includes DSO and DSM awards to 24 officers, 68 others, Military Cross recipients, and mentions 24 officers and 68 other ranks, with several killed or dying of wounds.
Canadian Press reports Dieppe August bravery recognized with the empire's Victoria Cross awarded to Lt Col Ceci Merritt of Vancouver who led the South Saskatchewan Regiment. Balasore report says police fired to break up a mob attempting to raid a police station at Enim in Basudeopur district. Twenty-five persons were killed in the clash and authorities launched investigations.
