Canada moves toward a 10 000 strong navy with an anti submarine escort vessel superior to frigates and corvettes. Current strength below 7 500 prompts calls for larger manpower and keel layings in Canadian shipyards within a year for escort craft and new minesweepers.
Manitoba expects to install a device to record legislative proceedings during the coming session opening late January or early February. The system will record speeches for playback via a listening machine while Saskatchewan used a tape with printed transcripts.
Lief B. Handell, associate editor of Ekstrabladet, achieved his ambition to fly around the world by commercial airlines in six days and 23 hours. He landed in Copenhagen at 11 30 am returning from a New York to Copenhagen eastbound route begun last Tuesday.

In Dawson Creek British Columbia two boys aged 11 and 13 faced murder charges over the death of 62 year old farmer James Watson. An inquest jury linked a gunshot from a rifle in the boys possession to Watson’s fatal wound as they impersonated desperadoes and attempted a highway robbery. Police said the pair shot into an approaching car after failing to stop it, then hid the rifle before it was recovered.
