Baron Gen Shigeru Honjo, a key war crimes figure linked to Manchuria's conquest, killed himself in his Tokyo office less than a day after being ordered arrested. A B-29 from Guam landed at National Airport at 12:55 pm setting a world distance record for nonstop flight. The flight covered about 8,000 miles in roughly 35 hours, surpassing the 7,158.44 miles Britain set in 1938 from Egypt to Australia. Earlier, Hokkaido to Washington and Hok Kaido to Chicago nonstops showed long-range gains, though fuel limits halted some.
Tehran reports Russian authorities halted Iranian troops advancing toward Azerbaijan to quell separatist disturbances. Four battalions and gendarmes were redeployed toward Tehran with tacit Russian approval and two US advisers on hand. Iranian casualties tallied seven. Soviet Izvestia denied foreign arms supplies to Iranian separatists.
Nuernberg November 20. The opening of the international war crimes trial lists the judges from Britain United States Soviet Union France and their alternates. Chief prosecutors include Hartley Shawcross Robert H Jackson and Yuri Pokrovsky. Defendants named are Hermann Goering Joachim von Ribbentrop Wilhelm Keitel Alfred Jodl Karl Doenitz Erich Raeder Hjalmar Schacht Walther Funk Franz Von Papen Alfred Rosenberg. Former German foreign minister Joachim von Ribbentrop collapsed late in the afternoon session at Nuremberg war crimes trials and was given sedatives after dizziness and facial neuralgia. He was removed from the crowded courtroom for twenty minutes and said the room was too close. Doctors expected him to be ready for tomorrow's session.

Frank W. Colwell, 64, who arrived from Montreal earlier this month, was found dead in his west-end rooming house in Vancouver yesterday. His brother Walter S. Colwell of Vancouver said the deceased had long suffered heart trouble.
Prime Minister Attlee arrived at Tangmere airport in southern England at 2:49 p.m. after flying from Canada. He traveled in the second Douglas Skymaster plane, accompanied by Sir John Anderson, head of Britain's atomic energy commission. The first plane with Attlee's associates landed 18 minutes earlier after official visits with Mackenzie King in Ottawa and President Truman in Washington.
British RAF fighter planes bombed Indonesian held roads into Semarang as fighting erupt ed in Batavia. Aneta said many youths from the Permuda outfit were entering Jakarta by train. Rail stations fell under Allied control loss. Leaflet warnings preceded bombardment. Casualties mounted in Semarang district. Soerabaja shelling and Bandong tension reported. Indonesian forces massed around Batavia to keep order.
Chinese Communist troops reportedly invaded Manchuria’s capital Changchun with about 4000 troops, racing nationalist forces inside the industrial region. The China Times cited new talks with Russia and noted possible Moscow Chungking conferences.
Paris reporting Gen de Gaulle meets with leaders of the three main parties to form a coalition government. Communists demand a policy making cabinet post while the assembly debates tri party government with Socialist amendment. Meetings scheduled with Thorez Mayer and Schumann as interviews follow.
